Where has the year gone!!!

I can't believe my baby is already a year old! The time has flown by. I remember a year ago being so scared to be a mom and having this tiny little baby depend on me! Being a mom is definitely different than what I thought but in a good way.... Ashtyn has been such a blessing in our lives, she's always so happy and loves everyone! It's so fun to see her hit different milestones.... She has started to walk and loves to be independent! She also loves to sit on my lap before bed and be cuddled (my favorite part of the day)! Ashtyn says momma and dada and signs "more". Dave has also taught her to wave her finger in the air when he says "Oh no she didn't"! It's so cute but she has also started to do it when she's mad!
My sister Theresa, Rich and their baby Maci came to see us over Thanksgiving. It was so much fun having them here! Ashtyn and Maci actually played really well together. (Maci is about 8 months older than A) While they were here, we had a little celebration for Ashtyn's birthday. We did the smash cake with a huge red velvet slice. She was so cute... at first she would just pat it and didn't really know what to think but then she really tore into and we had red velvet cake everywhere! We had a lot of fun family time and are so glad that they came down, and my parents were here to celebrate the holiday! Thanks to Angie Ward (the other Angie Ward) for taking these last pictures of us for Christmas cards!
Life has been good for Dave and I too! Not much of a change but I don't mind that! We can't wait to see the rest of our family over Christmas!

Thank you Pinterest

I have to admit... I have an addiction. Pinterest!!! I seriously spend way too much time on that site! And believe it or not, I've actually made some things from the stuff I've pinned! Unfortunately I only have a picture of 1 right now. Thanks to Angie Ward for getting a little craft group together to make these cute fall wreaths (I'm pretty sure she got the idea from pinterest)! I wasn't able to attend but I got all the stuff! I hated the little felt flowers by the time I was done, but I think they were worth it! I'm pretty proud of my wreath!

9 Months

My baby is 9 months old! She had her 9 month check up and here are her stats: Height- 28.5 in / 75th percentile Weight- 20.5 lbs/ 70th percentile Head circumference- 17.5 in./ 55th percentile
  • Ashtyn is such a great baby! She is a little cheese!!! Whenever we go anywhere, if someone will give her a little attention, she flashes all her teeth at them and waves. I love that she's not shy!
  • Speaking of teeth, she has 8! 4 on top and 4 on bottom.
  • Ashtyn is constantly babbling. She says mamama, dadadad, bababa.... you know, the usual baby talk. I don't know if she knows what she's saying yet so I don't know if I should count these as her first words. She loves to make noise and does a high pitched scream!
  • Ashtyn is quick to give a smile but it takes a little more to get a laugh. Her daddy can really get her going though!
  • She always does this wide open mouth thing, if your playing with her and do airplane or even just little dips!
  • Still doesn't have much hair! That's why she rarely leaves the house without a bow on her head! She's good at keeping them on too!
  • can no longer sit in her bumbo... she keeps flipping herself out of it!
  • Ashtyn pulls herself up to a standing position on everything. She can cruise the couch but hasn't let go of it yet! She has even started to stand on top of things! Yikes!
We love our little Ashtyn so much! She has definitely blessed our lives with her cute little personality and sweet spirit. People always told me to cherish all the little moments because they grow so fast, and I am definitely learning that! They poked my finger!! Go Utes!

Don't you just want to squeeze those little legs??? I'm so glad August is almost over! First off, it is so dang hot! I can't handle Houston summer weather! Thank goodness for good air conditioning! I think there were records broke for the hottness this year! Second, August is always crazy busy at my work. We have our Viper choreography during this month and I'm in charge of all the dance parts in the cheer routines plus my hip hop teams! This year my friend Hailey didn't come down :( so I felt a lot more pressure. Enough about me.... Ashtyn is getting to be more fun every day! She's all over the place and definitely a handful! She started to throw a little bit of attitude lately... especially when she is trying to pull the DVDs off the shelf and we move her! Poor Dave, he's had to be out in this heat working! But everything is good for him! We were really sad that the Wards moved this month. Off to Durango Colorado they go! It's been weird - and sad- not to have them here. Just the little things like going over on a Saturday night when we don't really want to go out and do anything but still want to get out of the house! Thank goodness we get to come home for Christmas though!!!

Some exciting things have been happening in the Garrett household. We got Iphones!!! I know that sounds silly but I've wanted one forever!!!! And they were definitely worth it! I've taken so many pictures with it, almost as many as when Ashtyn was first born! Speaking of, I know I say this every month, but I can't believe my baby is 7 months!!! I remember when she was only 6 weeks old and I started working, a lady at the gym told me her baby was 7 months and that sounded so old! Ashtyn is fun right now. She's very easy to get a huge smile from, and she still hasn't started the Stranger Danger stage yet, so she flashes her two bottom teeth to whoever wants to see them! Speaking of teeth, poor girl is getting 6 teeth right now!! That's right 6!!! She's getting four upper teeth and two more bottom ones. She usually sleeps all through the night but the past week has been a little rough! She'll wake up around 2, for me to put her binky back in, then 4 to be fed.... I'm hoping this little phase wont last long! Ashtyn took her first major fall yesterday :( I was helping at a garage sale, and Dave and Ashtyn came to help at the end for the clean up. I had been holding Ashtyn and put her in car seat to help. I didn't buckle her in because I thought I'd only be a minute. I had her on the sidewalk, and the next thing you know..... I hear a thud. I see Ashtyn laying belly down and lift her head, and her little nose was bleeding. My heart sank. Luckily she just got a scratch underneath her nose. Everyone says its the first of many falls, but I hate it when it's my fault. I should've just buckled her in, because I knew she's so curious right now... and just leaned a little too far forward. John and Shelley went to Italy and France and brought back this cute little beret for Ashtyn, this hat for Dave and a really cute scarf for me! Ashtyn actually left this hat on too! That's becuase I make her keep her headbands on (maybe I'm talking too soon)! We had a nice low key 4th this year. We wen to Angie and Greg's for a little bbq and a dip in the pool. Since they are leaving soon, we decided we had better at least jump off the rocks. I hate swimsuit pictures but this picture is pretty hilarious. We were trying to hit a pose... but Dave thought a canon ball was good enough....

Ashtyn's 6 month stats

Where has the time gone? I can't believe my baby is 6 months (actually almost 7... I'm just a little slow posting this!) Ashtyn is so much fun and everyone tells me what a great baby she is! At her last check up she was
Height: 26.5" (75th%) Weight: 15 lbs 11oz (40th%) Head circumference: 16.5" (25th%)
She also had another double ear infection :( Poor baby! She had a little bit of a runny nose but she wasn't acting fussy so I was very shocked that she had these ear infections! Ashtyn has started doing this fake cough. I think it's for attention but it's so cute! She has also started to squeeze her eyes shut when she cries.... things are a little bit exaggerated but that's ok, our little Diva makes us laugh! She hasn't quite started crawling but is real close. She army crawls everywhere and is getting really fast! I take my eye off her for a minute and she's gone! I think that's just gonna get worse before it gets better!!! She'll get on all four's and move her legs, but then she just falls to her belly to get going! Ashtyn has also started eating cereal. I know I started her kind of late but she wasn't fussy and to tell you the truth, I was kind of scared of starting her on cereal. The first couple of days, I think it upset her tummy, but now she's fine! She looks so cute sitting her her high chair! Dave and Ashtyn on Fathers Day Her cute little smile. She has two bottom teeth and I just saw two top teeth coming in. The strange thing is, they're not her front teeth. They're the teeth right next to them! Her new sleeping position....booty in the air!

Talk about busy! First off, Dave had a birthday! Me, being the lame wife and having to work, didn't plan much of a celebration. I guess that means I'm gonna have to do something HUGE for the big 30 next year! I did however make cake balls! Ashtyn got him a couple of much needed shirts. We took Ashtyn to the beach for the first time! She loved it! It was kind of windy, but that didn't stop us! I was so busy making sure that I kept Ashtyn covered with sunscreen that I forgot about myself and fried my shoulders!
The next week, I had off of work so Ashtyn and I headed to Idaho! None of my siblings had met Ashtyn yet, so it was fun showing her off! She was such a great baby traveling. In fact, a man on the way back said she was the best baby he'd ever seen on a plane! I swear I get a little taller every time someone comments on my baby girl! My parents flew with me so it made it super easy! We met up with Dave's parents in SLC for lunch before we made the 4 hour car drive. I was so happy that John and Shelley took time to meet us for lunch! Being the great mom I am, I didn't get any pictures :( John took some though!
Ashtyn had a lot of fun meeting her cousins! I was able to see some great friends and spend some time with them. Before heading to Idaho, a week sounds like such a long time to see everyone, but when I get up there, I always wonder where the week went!
I spent a lot of time with my sister Theresa and her baby Maci. It was so fun just hanging out with them!
My nephew Zak got his mission call and waited to take out his endowments until we were there! It was my first time going through the Rexburg temple. It was so great to be able to go through with the family! Ashtyn got to meet her boyfriend Crew! We didn't even set this picture up. They just grabbed hands!

This is my first Mother's Day as a mom! Dave, I mean Ashtyn spoiled me! On Friday this is what I got...
It's so true. I literally have to tell Dave that I don't want a gift until the date he is suppose to give it to me! Dave says he gets this trait from his mom! In this little package I got a $25 gift card to JoAnns. I also got a pair of tennis shoes! I told you, I got spoiled! I'm so thankful for my little family!
I'm also thankful for my mom and the great example she's been! I appreciate everything my mom has done for me! I've learned a lot from her and how I want to be as a mom. Here are just a few...
  • I could always count on my mom. If there was anything I was involved in, I knew my mom would be there to support me
  • How to be a hard worker... After mom gets home from her job, she gets started cleaning the house, cooking dinner, etc.
  • My mom is always involved in some kind of charity project, from American Cancer Society, to Make A Wish Foundation
  • How to be frugal.
  • Staying organized and not to procrastinate. I'm not very good at this one... but I'm working on it!
I'm also thankful for Shelley and the great mom she is to Dave. I know he has learned a lot from her too. For your enjoyment:

Ashtyn is 4 months! We went in for her 4 month check up and shots :( and she was... Height 25in.- 90th percentile weight 14.5lbs - 60th percentile Poor little thing also has a wicked cough and come to find out, she has Bronchiolitis and an ear infection! She is still such a good baby though! She is getting sick of us sticking the thermometer in her ear, the sucker up her nose and giving her medicine. My parents came into town the last couple weeks. It was way fun to have them here! I continued to work so even though they were here, I still don't feel like I saw them as much as I would've liked! Ashtyn loved having them here! She LOVES her grandpa! He can make her smile more than I can! Most babies are scared of that deep voice, but Ashtyn loved it! As for me, one more competition to go for Vipers! It's in Dallas... so this will be my first time leaving Ashtyn. I'm sure Dave will do a great job, but I can't believe I'm already getting a little anxiety over it! Dave's job is really picking up...staying busy for the summer!

Busy Busy Busy! I just had our huge dance competition in Galveston. It was super fun and my teams did really well! My mini, and youth teams both got 1st(and a National Champion Lettermans Jacket :) My Junior team got 3rd out of 7 and my senior team ended in 4th out of 9. I was very proud of them! Go Vipers! I also started teaching yoga again. I forgot how much I missed the people at the club... and they all seemed happy to have me back! Thanks to Dave's sister Angie for watching Ashtyn until she gets old enough for me to take her into the nursery... 1 more month! Dave's been running at nights when I get home and now he thinks he's a runner! I'm proud of him, he's very dedicated about going, even when I get home late, he will still go. I wish I could go with him, but I've been walking with my friend Chelsea and sometime Jacquelyn. I'm also now part of a Bunko group. We get together one night a month and play, just the girls. We have so much fun, and I've won something both times we done it... the first time I won for the most losses (represent) and last time I won for the most Bunkos! So I went from the biggest loser to the winner! This week is Spring Break for my work....I've really been in a craft mood lately so that's what I'll probably spend my time doing! Here's an Easter wreath I made! Oh one more thing, Ashtyn has started rolling over from her belly to her back! She's done it about six times now!

Look who's found her thumb!!! I can't decide if I would rather have a thumb sucker or a Binky sucker.... A thumb is easier in the middle of the night, (that way I don't have to get up whenever the pacifier falls out), but a Binky would be easier to take away when she's older. Hmmmm dilemma! We took Ashtyn to the doc the other day for her 2 month checkup (3 weeks late). She had to get all of her shots so I made Dave come with me because I can't bear to be looking at her when the nurse pokes her! She's growing perfectly! Weight - 13.3 (80th percentile) Height - 23 3/4 (75th percentile) Ashtyn is really starting to get a personality too! I love waking her up in the mornings because she always has the biggest smile on her face. I'm still trying to get a picture of that! I got one on my phone but not on my real camera. She's also starting to make cute little coo and squeal sounds. She use to grunt all the time... not very girlie... so it's fun to hear these little feminine sounds! Valentine's outfit

Thanks to John (Dave's dad) for taking these amazing pictures. I've posted some of them on Facebook, so this is for my friends and family who don't have a Facebook!
